Papua New Guinea Structure
The Sanders travelled to Papua New Guinea a couple of times, and the sheer number of masks and other regalia that they brought back to the US is one of the reasons they built a bigger lake house. When looking at traditional buildings from PNG, we would be looking at the patterns in the paint and roof thatching (maybe a product like this or this) in order to help our patrons feel transported to an island where a different language is spoken every few miles.
Below are a couple of examples in our collection of Papuan art that also show these patterns.
